How You Can Make Your Child Behavior Problems A Thing Of The Past
There are many tasks that you will have to learn and overcome but many of them you can get teaching for, child rearing is not one of them and when you are faced with child behavior problems it is hard to know who to turn to. As each child is different, you may find that what has worked for your friend or family members will not work for you. I am going to tell you about a few methods that have been used by professionals and parents alike and has meant that you too can successfully benefit from what has been learned.
Some children may have been diagnosed or it may be being looked into that they have a certain condition that affects the way they act. Even still there are steps that you can take so that you can get the best possible from your child in terms of behaviour and not dread going out shopping or taking them outside the home.
One way that people deal with their frustration is to scream and shout at their child, this is because anger gets the better of them. Although you may seem to get results at the time you will find that doing so will mean that no one will benefit and your child will see even negative reactions as attention and reward for their behaviour. This is why they will try the behaviour again and again.
As there are so many different places a child can pick up bad habits and language from in today’s society it can be hard to know how to react if your child learns a swear word from an older sibling or the television. You will have told them off numerous times, yet the child continues to repeat the words in the most awkward of situations. This one way that has proved to be a success is to ignore the child when they use the language. This will then show the child that they get no reaction good or bad, and as a child flourishes and enjoys your interaction they will soon move onto something different to attract your attention and the bad words will soon be forgotten.
The time out method is used all over the world as an alternative to smacking, this gives both the parent and child the time they need to cool down meaning that things are not said in the heat of the moment and you can both come back to dealing with why you are not happy when you are both calmer. Depending on the age of the child you will have to decide where you want to use as the time out space, this could be anything from a rug or the bottom step of your stairwell. This means that you can adapt the time out to suit your location whether it be at home, at a friends or a bench when you are out and about. You should only leave the child for one minute for each year of their life.
If they get up from where they have been put return them to the spot and continue to do so, it may seem like a lengthy task but in the end it will pay off.
To enforce the fact that good behaviour is acceptable when they do as asked straight away or play well with others and share you can give them a little reward to show how proud you are of them. This will mean they are more likely to show you their good side rather than their bad in the future.
Sticker charts have also been proven to effectively encourage good behaviour. Depending on your child’s age you will award a sticker each time your child does something straight away without argument that they are being told to do, or plays nicely. The rewards will depend on the behaviour you are trying to teach. You decide how many stickers must be earned before they are rewarded and make sure you stick to it.
By teaching your child how to behave you will be instilling good building blocks for the future and also without even knowing it, teaching good parenting skills for when your child is older. They will get on better at school and playgroups and their concentration will also be improved. Always remember that you are the parent and you are in charge!
